River House

With 20-foot vaulted ceilings, a distinctly "retro" flair, and cushy comfort from wall to wall, River House's third-floor Loft Apartment is situated high over the city, offering spectacular views of downtown New Orleans, the Mississippi River Bridge, and the Faubourg Marigny. Flooded with morning and afternoon light from its four large dormer windows, this suite is so spacious you may want to tango from end to end. Like our other two apartments, this one will take you back in timeóbut in this case only to the 1930s through 50s, with its authentic retro lampshades, neon clock, and cushy furniture including two leather sofas and two insanely comfortable chrome and "leatherette" armchairs (rescued from a going-out-of-business Big Easy bowling alley). Dangling from the ceiling in the center of the space is a huge Calder-style mobile acquired in a Paris flea market, complementing the apartment's stylish kitchenette and dining area. Slip through a bamboo curtain into the bathroom, where a huge open shower, oversized marble and chrome sink, and floor to ceiling tile in shades of mango and ocean blue are sure to make you smile.
